Elward Rainey


BURLINGTON - Elward Rainey, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alamance County on January 14, 1931 to the late Harry “Bill” Monroe and Myrtle Coleman Rainey and was the husband of 45 years to the late Lois Massey Rainey.
Elward was a longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church. He served in the US Army in Korea as a company clerk and retired from Burlington Industries as an accountant while also working as a tobacco farmer. He was a hardworker and held two jobs most of his career. He loved working on the farm, helping neighbors and gardening.

Survivors include his daughters, Tammy Moore (Russell), Robin Rainey; sons, Barry Rainey (Jennifer), Harry Rainey (Ginny), Mark Rainey and Michael Rainey; grandchildren, Jennifer Rainey Rivers, Jason, Haven, Brian, Joshua, Shannon and Blake Rainey, Krystin Hines and 16 great -grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Francis Rainey King.
A service . to celebrate Elward’s life will be held 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 at Altamahaw Baptist Church with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. He will be available for viewing from 11-4 on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church, 3445 Altamahaw Church St, Elon, NC 27244.
