HIGH POINT - Mr. Vernon Elmore Jones, 75, of 3945 Brandywine Street, died at 2:45 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, in High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 21, 1921, in Burlington, a son of J. Luther and Esther Lee Jones, and had lived in the High Point area since 1949. He was retired from Western Electric Company as a supervisor, after 31 years of service.
He was a member of the Oakview Lions Club and a charter member of the Horneytown Lions Club. He was a former Lion of the Year and had served on several committees at the district level. He was district governor in 1971-71, a year in which District 31-D achieved 100 percent of it's goals. He was also a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow trophy. In all, he served in the Lion's Club for more than 50 years.
He volunteered his time with Mobile Meals and was a member of Oakview United Methodist Church. In 1944, he married Lilia Causey, who survives of the home.
