She was born on Thursday, December 29, 1932 in Anderson, SC, and was the daughter of Baron Sterling Pettit and Dorothy Virginia (Milford) Pettit.
Mrs. Kernodle is survived by two brothers, Milford Delano Pettit and Paul Alvis Pettit; sister, Wanda Taylor; her two sons, Walter Kernodle, of Pembroke Pines, Fla, and Robert Kernodle, of Laurel, Del, six daughters, Sharon Koger, of Indianapolis, Ind., Arleen Hurlock, of Seaford, Del, Bertha Wilson, of Greenwood, Deborah Kernodle, of Laurel, Del, Susan Case, of Townsville, Australia and Penny (Kernodle) Sonzini, of Tamarac, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Baron Sterling Pettit and Dorothy Virginia (Milford) Pettit Banning; husband of 53 years, Wilbur Lawson Kernodle Sr.; her eldest son, Wilbur Lawson Kernodle Jr.; grandson, Robert Lawson Wilson; brothers, James Wylie Pettit, Sr., and Randall Albert Pettit, sister, Sarah Christine Pettit.
