Elsie Martin Arrwood


    ALTAMAHAW — Elsie Martin Arrwood, 87, of Sutton Street, died on Monday, June 15, 2009 at her home after seven weeks of failing health.
    She was born in Alamance County and was the daughter of the late William and Annie Matkins Martin and was married to the late Herman W. Arrwood. She was a member of Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was also a member of the Joy Club.
    Mrs. Arrwood was a former employee of Monarch Hosiery. She truly enjoyed writing which gave her a way to express her wit and humor, and her work was regularly seen in the church bulletin or newsletter.
    She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Lemuel McKinney; sons and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Teresa Arrwood of Elon, Darryl Arrwood and Lisa Buchanan of Altamahaw; grandchildren, Kerry Arrwood, Christy (T.J.) Johnson, Jason (Ashley)Arrwood,JosephMcKinney and Elizabeth Arrwood; and her dear lifelong friend, Dot Murray.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Rose M. Taylor and Emma M. Tickle.
    The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Garry Yeatts and the Rev. Delmar Scotten, with interment to follow in Bethlehem Christian Church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
