Geneva Doris Underwood Jackson
REIDSVILLE — Geneva Doris Underwood Jackson of 1908 Belmont Dr. Reidsville, NC passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County as a result of complications from a head injury sustained in a fall at her home. She was born on October 16th, 1925, to James Broughton (JB) and Edna (Minor) Underwood and was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County. She was a devoted and much-loved wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by: two daughters, Edna Faye Diachenko and husband Mark of Yadkinville, NC and Neva Jane Cresenzo and husband Rick of Reidsville; four grandchildren, Amy Diachenko Foster and husband Corey of Lewisville, NC; Jackson Cresenzo of Blowing Rock, NC; John Philip Diachenko of Raleigh, NC; and Parker Cresenzo of Greensboro, NC; and one great-granddaughter Eva Jacklyn Foster of Lewisville, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents JB and Edna Underwood and her husband of 49 years, Philip M. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson could often be found at First Congregational Christian Church of Reidsville, where she was a lifelong member. She stayed busy at the church with many committees and Circle #3. She was very fond of the church's Men's Fellowship group, which took her under its wing after the passing of her loving husband. Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of Queens College where she was a member of ADII sorority and she was a public school teacher for many years.
Mrs. Jackson was a sustaining member of the Reidsville Junior Service League as well as a member of Flora Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and multiple bridge clubs. For many years she also delivered Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Jackson always enjoyed traveling with her husband as well as entertaining her friends and family. She would warmly welcome visitors into her home with a fresh pot of coffee and a sweet snack.
The family extends its thanks and gratitude for the care given to Mrs. Jackson over the years by Dr. Margaret Bertrand, Dr. Scott Luking, Dr. Eric Neijstrom and over the past few weeks by Dr. Denise Fisher, hospitalist at Annie Penn Hospital, Dr. Zack Hall and the loving staff of Hospice of Rockingham County. The family is most appreciative of the care given to Mrs. Jackson by Ms. Carolyn Hill, her special friend and caregiver for the past eight months.
Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 from 5 until 7 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence. The funeral service will be held on Thursday February 24, 2011, at 11 a.m., at First Congregational Christian Church. Burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.
