Marvin Ragle, 90, a veteran and beloved family man, passed away from this world to the next on January 28, 2021.
He leaves behind a grieving family along with many friends who are sad to see him go but are happy that Marvin has returned home.
Marvin was the son of the late John and Mary Ragle, and was one of six children.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Way Ragle ; his beloved and ferocious watch dog, Tiny; a son Marvin Wayne Ragle (Joanne); daughter Barbara Way Taher; two grandchildren, Jacob R Earp (Elissa), and Aliya Q Taher; one great granddaughter Oakley R Earp. Of Marvin’s brother and sisters, his brother, the Reverend John Henry Ragle and sister Betty Ashbey survive.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Beatrice Hall, Murial Walker, Nonie Ward and Barbara Reynolds; and by his first wife the late Garnette Johnson Ragle.
Marvin was a graduate of Walter Williams High School in Burlington. He served in the newly established United States Air Force from 1949 -1953 serving in Alaska, Texas, and California.
Upon his return home from active duty, he settled down in Graham. Shortly there after Marvin enrolled in Elon College-now Elon University. Over many years he earned both his bachelors and master’s degrees along with many certifications in his field of work. For a time, Marvin was an instructor who taught Chemistry at Duke University. Marvin was an energetic inventor and businessman. He started and ran several successful businesses including an environmental consulting company and real estate. For more than two decades Marvin worked for the City of Graham running the wastewater treatment center as well as working for the City of Mebane and for the City of Roxboro. Marvin faithfully attended the New Hope Church of Glenn Raven and the Open Bible Church of Burlington. He enjoyed attending services every week and especially loved Gospel Music. He was a man who loved life to the fullest and enjoyed telling jokes to make people laugh. He was a friend to all who met him and uplifted everyone around him. Marvin loved his family and loved pranking his beloved children. He tried to make life better for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Marvin was a man who lived through hard times but someone who never complained. Before Marvin passed away, he had a full heart and did not mind giving out hugs to the nurses at the Hospice facility in Burlington. Right before he passed from this world Marvin got to FaceTime with his grandchildren and great granddaughter. He was amazed at how this worked, and it made him extremely happy. His family is confident that Marvin had many treasures that were waiting for him as he took his final breath Thursday morning.
