Gladys Tingen Sykes, 84, of Graham, died December 1, 2016 at Alamance Regional Health Center in Burlington.

Born September 4, 1932 in Carteret County, she was the daughter of the late George Hampton and Ethel Lee Smith Tingen. Mrs. Sykes was a retired seamstress from Perfect Fit Textiles. She enjoyed puzzles, games and playing cards. She also loved to sing and dance.

Mrs, Sykes is survived by her husband, Lester Sykes; daughters, Connie Whitfield Horner of Franklin, Rebecca Whitfield Troxler of Altamahaw, Vivian Whitfield Crawford and Bobbi Whitfield Sweeney, both of Graham; step-sons, David Sykes of Randleman, Jesse Sykes, Jim Sykes and Rickey Sykes, all of Haw River, Harold Sykes of Graham; step-daughters, Carolyn Vaughn and Tammy Maye both of Burlington; sister, Edith Hodge of Burlington; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

The service to celebrate Mrs. Sykes’ life will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2016 at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Friends may visit with the family after the service.
