Obituary Online notes for “Bob” Robert O. LEATH
Services for Robert O. "Bob" Leath, 84, of Tyler will be on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerry Giles officiating.
Burial will follow in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Leath passed away May 20, 2012, in Tyler.
He was born July 6, 1927, in Tyler to J. Maurice and Benjie Marie Alfred Leath.
Mr. Leath was a graduate of Tyler High School, Tyler Junior College and The University of Texas. He worked as an insurance adjuster, retiring after 40 years with Lindsey & Newsom Insurance Adjusters (now Cunningham Lindsey). After retirement, Mr. Leath volunteered with local literacy groups and with the AARP tax preparation program.
Mr. Leath was a past president of the Tyler Jaycees and a past state vice president as well as national director. As a member of the Tyler Clown Club, he participated in many Rose Parades. He had also been an active member of the Tyler Kiwanis Club, Sharon Shrine Temple band and the Smith County Historical Society. Mr. Leath served as an assistant Scout master for Boy Scout Troop 363 and was also an avid golfer. He was a 60-year member of Marvin United Methodist Church and he and his wife were founding members of the church's Chapel Class.
Mr. Leath was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 58 years, Gretchen Ford Leath of Tyler; four children, Andrew L. Leath of Tyler, Roxanne (Chander) Kasiraj of Spring, Randy (Karen) Leath of Abilene and James (Melanie) Leath of Tyler; nine grandchildren, Emily Leath, Adam Kasiraj, Rebecca Leath, Alyssa Kasiraj, Renee Leath, Catherine Leath, Joanna Leath, Aimee Leath and Virginia Leath; great-granddaughter, Kenzie; and by several beloved cousins.
Pallbearers will be Chander Kasiraj, Adam Kasiraj, Thomas A. Ford Jr.; Chris R. McCurry, Mike Bowen, JP Gary Alfred and Michael O. Ford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Wallis and J.D. Nantz.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
