William Wilkins was born in 1790 in the Southern District of Halifax County, Virginia, a son of Thomas Wilkins (1765-1844) and Susannah Pace (1759-1819).
He was a grandson of William Wilkins (1728-c1790) and Sarah Averett (c1731-c1793); and a great grandson of John Wilkins (c1700-c1759) and Mary Kimbrough (1703-c1747).
William married Mary Wilson Wall, widow of Ivey Wall, on February 14, 1813 in Granville County, North Carolina. Mary was a daughter of Wallis Wilson (1755-1847) and Rebecca Wall (unkn-c1812).
William was a blacksmith, and operated a shop with his cousin Reuben Wilkins.
William filed for a third Bounty Land Claim on April 3, 1855, stating he had served as a Private for a term of 6 months, in the Company commanded by Captain William Leigh, in the 69th Regiment of the Virginia militia in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States the 18th day of June, 1812. He made this application, under the Act of 28th September 1850. He stated he had previously received two grants, each of 40 acres, of which he had already disposed of.
Mr. William Wilkins died September 10, 1856 in the Southern District of Halifax County, Virginia. His death was reported by his wife Mary. 470, Pvt William Wilkins
