Samuel Thomas Parsons, Jr., 95, of Burlington, NC passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the Village at Brookwood.
A native of Alamance County, NC, he was the husband of the late Clarice Allred Parsons and the son of Samuel Thomas Parsons, Sr. and Thelma Louise Parsons, both deceased.
Tom spent his professional career in the textile industry. In 1954, he became Superintendent of Dyeing and Finishing at Fullknit Hosiery. In 1960, he went to work with Kayser-Roth as Superintendent of Dyeing for men’s hosiery. While working with Kayser-Roth, Tom was asked to set-up a new manufacturing facility in Panama. This facility, Industrias Everfit, was completed and began operations to support the Kayser-Roth Esquire product line. A new opportunity presented in 1972 and Tom joined Burlington Chemical Company, Inc. as Executive Vice President. He held this position until 1990 helping Burlington Chemical achieve tremendous growth and success.
When Tom retired, he spent time traveling and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his favorite hobby, golf. He had four holes in one on different golf courses but not on his home course, Alamance Country Club.
At the age of 93, Tom decided he needed to leave a written story of his life for his family. In 2023 he worked with author Julie Novara to write the book: “Life Ain’t A Gift You Gotta Earn It”.
Survivors include his daughter, Frankie Parsons Newlin (Dr. Boyd Newlin); two grandchildren, Shannon Newlin (Beth) and April Isaacs (Terry); daughter-in-law, Lee Parsons; grandson, Logan Parsons (Meredith); sister, Carolyn Parsons Cook; 11 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Carlyle Parsons; three sisters, Peggy Spears, Becky Adams, and Kay Wilson; and a brother, Robert (Bobby Jo) Parsons.
