Flora Lee Edwards Welker passed away peacefully at Friends Home Guilford on March 7, 2103. Internment will take place at Westminster Gardens following the funeral service.
Flora Lee was born August 17, 1929 in Greensboro, NC to John Clarence and Ethel Sullivan Edwards. She graduated from Guilford High School, then received a bachelor's degree in English and Music from Guilford College and did graduate work in Library Science at UNCG. She met her husband, Ralph Welker, at Guilford High School and they were married May 12, 1956. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and worked as a librarian/media specialist at Morehead Elementary School for many years where she loved helping the young students. She retired from her work in 1989. During her career she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She also loved to cook, sew and garden and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph O. Welker, and their sons and their families; Dr. Mark E. Welker and wife Sandra Cutting-Welker of Clemmons, NC and their children, Sarah and Emily; and Dr. Michael A. Welker and wife Dr. Teri Shearer of Napanee, Ontario, Canada and their children, Callie, Shawn, and Lauren. She was preceded in death by her brothers Clarence Edwards and J.C. Edwards and her sister Ethel Edwards Spencer but is also survived by their sons, her nephews, Rick and David Spencer and Bob, John, and Walt Edwards and their families. 470, Flora Lee Edwards Welker
