ALBERT LEE WHITAKER GREENSBORO
Albert Lee" Big Buddy" Whitaker, 85, a resident of Greensboro passed away at his home on Saturday November 23, 2013.
Mr. Whitaker was born September 1, 1928 in Dobson, the son of Grady Roosevelt and Lena Roxie Southern Whitaker.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the City of Greensboro for 45 years before retiring. He was a devote Christian and member of Southside Baptist Church.
Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth Lee Whitaker in 1985 and his brother, Ralph Whitaker.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Janie Joyce Whitaker of the home; three daughters, Gale Whitaker Branson of Greensboro, Joyce Whitaker Millman and husband Cliff of Greensboro, Cindy Whitaker of the home; two sisters, Mary Soots and husband Leonard and Betty Baker all of Burlington; one brother, Oscar "Ott" Whitaker and wife Peggy of Gibsonville; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Patrick Fuller and Reverend Larry Thompson.
Interment with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Southside Baptist Church, 1001 Greenhaven Dr., Greensboro, NC 27406
