Beloved Charlotte Woman Stricken and Died in Few Minutes

Never Fully Recovered From Grief Over Death of Oldest Daughter Six Weeks Ago.

Mrs. Lottie C. Maffit, died quite suddenly last night a few minutes before 8 o'clock, at the home of her son, Ben C. Maffitt, 207 West Eleventh street. Death was due to heart failure. Mrs. Maffitt complained several minutes before her death of feeling bad and before aid could be summoned she passed away.
Mrs. Maffitt was 64 years old in the summer. She was one of the best known and most beloved women of Charlotte, active in her church work, and prominent in the activities of Stonewall Jackson chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was an ideal mother and Christian woman.
Six weeks ago yesterday, Mrs. Maffitt was heartbroken over the news of the death of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Maffitt Kirby in Baltimore, who also died suddenly. Mrs. Kirby was the oldest child. Those of Mrs. Maffitt's friends closest to her, knew that she would never be herself again, after her grief over the loss of her daughter.
Mrs. Maffitt was born in Salisbury. She married Walter C. Maffitt of Atlanta and after her marriage went to Charleston to live. they were living in Barnwell, S. C., at the time of Mr. Maffitt's death many years ago. She has since resided in Charlotte.
She is survived by two sons, McKean Maffitt, of Florence, S. C., and Ben C. Maffitt of Charlotte, the latter being the youngest child.
Mrs. Charlotte Maffitt Gray and Ted Maffitt, died a number of years ago.
One sister, Mrs. J. H. McAden, survives and the following grandchildren, Russell Kirby and Miss Polly Kirby of Baltimore; Charlotte and Lucile Maffitt of Florence, S. C., and Mary Shelton and Ben Maffitt of Charlotte.
Mrs. Ben C. Maffitt is expected to arrive in the city today from Burlington where she had been visiting relatives. McKean Maffitt is also expected to arrive here today from Florence, to attend the funeral.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home this afternoon at 5 o'clock by Dr. A. A. McGeachy, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church. Interment will be in Elmwood.
