Obituary Online notes for Lydia Mae SWADLEY
Lydia Mae Swadley Youngblood, age 92, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on August 10, 2015 at The Forum in Overland Park.
Lydia was the daughter of John and Christa Swadley, of Nixa, MO, and was born on July 29, 1923 in Clever, MO. She was a graduate of Clever High School and attended business college in Springfield, MO. She married James Polk Youngblood, of Springfield, MO, on January 30, 1947. She and Jim were married for 64 years, before he passed away in 2011.
Lydia and Jim moved frequently in the early years, but she enjoyed working as a secretary in whatever city they lived in. In later years, she worked for Folgers Coffee in Kansas City, and retired from there on June 30, 1985.
Lydia was an active member of Leawood Baptist Church and enjoyed doing many jobs. She volunteered for her church as a secretary and was a member of several committees. She was happiest when she cared for and helped others.
Lydia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy, and she loved to cook, trying recipes old and new, especially during the Holidays. She enjoyed traveling, decorating, and helping clients select mats and frames from their frame shop, Frames by James.
Lydia is survived by sons Gary Youngblood and his wife Clara of Kansas City, MO, and by John Youngblood and his wife Katy of Pleasanton, CA. She is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses: Christa and Rob Fox of Richmond, VA, Melissa and Matt Clark of Prairie Grove, AR, Josh and Courtney Youngblood of Los Angeles, CA, and David and Dana Youngblood of Livermore, CA. Lydia was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Ashten and Bryson Fox of Richmond, VA, Sadie Youngblood of Los Angeles, CA and Aiden Clark of Prairie Grove, AR.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS, 66208 and/or Leawood Baptist Church, 8200 State Line Rd., Leawood, KS, 66206.
