Hamlin James Roderique
November 21, 1915 - December 29, 2011

On December 29, 2011 we lost a wonderful man, Hamlin James Roderique. He was born on November 21, 1915 in Sullivan, MO to Otis and Ruth Roderique and lived a full and amazing life.

In 1937 Hamlin married Fertina Hoffarth. They were married 47 years and to this union four children were born; Carolyn, Mary, Jim and Ruth. Fertina passed away in 1984 and Hamlin married Ruby Letsch, Jean Scarborough and Dee Ward who all preceded him in death. Hamlin was also preceded in death by his children Jim and Ruth Roderique, grandson Marc Masters, sisters Cecil Pardee and Jo Smith.

Hamlin is survived by his daughters Carolyn Roderique, Mary and Wayne Masters of Springfield, MO and grandchildren; Molly (Mark) Richardson and great-granddaughter Claire Riley Richardson, Emily (Jeff) Steiner all of St. Petersburg, FL, Anne (Nate) Jones of New York, NY, James (Rebecca) Roderique of Marshfield, MO and Austin Roderique of Clever, MO. He is also survived by step-daughter Sandra (Cliff) House and family of Springfield, MO. Also surviving is a special nephew Jim Smith of Bourbon, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Hamlin and Fertina opened Roderique's Music and Book Store in 1951 and they were very active in the Christian Booksellers Association, serving as president of the National Board of Directors for two terms. He was also active in the Commercial Club, Northside Betterment Association and Kiwanis Club.

Another of Hamlin's passions was music. He was active for a number of years in the Show Me Statesmen Barbershop Chorus and Gospel Quartets at High Street Baptist Church where he held several positions of leadership. Hamlin had been a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for a number of years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6 at Gorman- Sharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors John Marshall and Ed Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Rivermont Cemetery.
