Obituary Online notes for “Lee” Aletha Belle WALTERS
Aletha Belle “Lee” Ashley, 91, of South Bend passed away Monday December 14, 2015 in her home with her family by her side. She was born March 15, 1924 in South Bend to the late Alta G. (Arnold) and Earl M. Walters and was a lifetime area resident. On October 8, 1944 in South Bend she married Warren Dale “Pete” Ashley who died November 26, 2014. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.
She is survived by her children, Joan M. Blackford, Connie R. Kio (Thomas), RaeAnn B. Chupp (Donald), and Dale L. and Donald Ashley all of South Bend; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lee retired from the family farm and the South Bend Community School Corporation where she worked in the cafeterias at German Township School and Washington High School for many years. She was a member of the Portage Chapel United Methodist Church (Northwest United Methodist Church). Lee taught children’s Sunday school and was a board member of the church. For many years she was also a board member of Indiana Farm Bureau, president of the German Township Senior Citizens Retirees Club and a member of the St. Joseph County 4H Boosters Club and Purdue Homemakers Club.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, December 19th in North West United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Rd. with Rev. Vickie Van Nevel officiating. Friends may visit with the family in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Her wishes were to be cremated at the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home Crematory.
