Joan C. Whitesel, 86, of New Carlisle, formerly of South Bend, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Hamilton Grove Retirement Communities. Joan was born July 30, 1928, in South Bend, to Robert Owen and Faye Belle (Kuhn) Carpenter. On January 15, 1955 in South Bend, Joan married Marion F. Whitesel, who passed away November 14, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Barley, and brother, Robert Carpenter. Joan is survived by her sons, Robert N. Whitesel, of South Bend, and John S. (Debra) Whitesel, of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, one granddaughter, Emily (Anthony) Hardiman, of DeForest, Wisconsin, and four great-grandchildren, Tahlia,Tia, Emony, and Alana. Joan retired from Bendix Corporation where she worked in the mail room. She was a member of West Side Church of Christ, past Worthy Matron of O.E.S. # 320 New Carlisle, and D.A.R. Joan was very devoted to her loving family, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at West Side Church of Christ, 22987 W. Edison Rd., South Bend, IN 46628, with Rev. Jon McCann officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 27th, from 3:00 till 7:00 p.m., at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. In Joan’s memory, contributions may be made to West Side Church of Christ.
