Newton, N.C. - Eloise N. Eckard, 66, of Newton, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born April 21, 1942 in Burlington, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mary Miller and William Haywood Noah.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was a director of Sunday school and active in the church choir. She served for 25 years as a school teacher at Highland Elementary, Ridgeview, Kenworth, and Oakwood Elementary and was also a member of the D.A.R.

She is survived by her husband, Timothy Eckard of the home; a daughter, Donna Yoder and husband, Andy, of Hickory; a son, Tom Eckard and wife, Julia, of Raleigh; a brother, William H. Noah Jr. of Swannanoa, N.C.; a sister, Mary Noah Murphy of Buchanan Dam, Texas; grandchildren, Justin, Buvid and Allison Lovelace.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Yoder officiating. The body will lie-in-state from 2:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
