Obituary Online notes for Dorcas Eileen WHITESELL
Oct. 5, 1922 - Nov. 30, 2007

Dorcas E. (Whitesel) Gray, 85, Anderson, died Nov. 30, 2007, at Bethany Pointe in Anderson.

She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Randolph County, Ind., the only daughter of Fred and Bessie Whitesel. Her parents both preceded her in death. She had two brothers, Elvan (Esther) Whitesel, now deceased, and Ivan (Violet) Whitesel, who currently live in Greenback, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews survive Dorcas.

In 1941, Dorcas graduated from Anderson High School and married the only man she ever loved, George H. "Pete" Gray. They were married 41 years until his untimely death in 1982. Pete and Dorcas had two children, Larry and Linda. It was always Dorcas' desire to have both her children love and serve the Lord.

Larry Gray resides in Anderson. He and his wife, Connie, have three children, Donna, Darrin and James; Donna (Jim) Thurston (Rebekah and Tyler) of Chatham, Ill., Darrin (Leslie) Gray (Evan, Shelby and Zachary) of Fishers, and James (Kirsten) Gray (Benjamin and Meredith) of Anderson.

Linda and her husband, Ken Poucher, reside in Muncie. She has three children, Jeff, Janet and Jason; Jeff (Cyndee) Friend (Cody and Jake of Anderson), Janet Porter (Justin, Nathan and Ashley of Snohomish, Wash.) and Jason (Jayna) Friend (Jesse and Jordyn of Anderson). Linda also has grown stepchildren from out of town.

Dorcas has attended and been a member of the South Meridian Church of God since she was a young child. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Homemaker's Club for many years. She served on several boards and committees. She also was a youth counselor at camp and drove many young people to church camp each summer.

The last six months of Dorcas' life have been a struggle. She has anxiously awaited her New Heavenly Home-to be in the presence of God and so many of her loved ones who have gone on before her. We will miss her sweet smile, but she is rejoicing with the angels to be free from bondage of a broken human body.

A special thanks to all of you who sent cards and those who visited with Dorcas. She cherished each one of you. Dorcas especially thought it was kind of people who still thought of her and had known her during the years she had worked at their business — The Golden Palm Family Billiards Room in North Anderson.

Dorcas leaves behind two children, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives who will always remember her. Her name alone is unique, and so was Dorcas!

Words are inadequate to express our appreciation for all the loving care and everyday kindnesses shown by the staff and employees of Bethany Pointe Healthcare Campus. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for loving our mother and caring for her so tenderly for so long.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Dale Landis of South Meridian Church of God and Pastor Tim Foreman officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to South Meridian Church of God or the Christian Center.

Submitted with honor and respect.
470, Dorcas Eileen Whitesel Gray
