Obituary Online notes for Doyle Sheldon WHITESELL
Doyle Sheldon Whitesel, 89, of Augusta Kansas, formerly of Hot Springs Arkansas, went to be with the Lord January 11 2021 in the home of his eldest daughter and son n law's home. He died peacefully in his sleep after two years of fighting heart disease.

He was born May 3, 1931 in Anderson Indiana to Trecil Sheldon and Cora Wiletta (Trick) Whitesel. He married Velva Jean Cash November 1 1951 in Anderson Indiana. She preceded him in death November 22 2019.

Doyle was raised with 4 other siblings in a pastor's home which took his family to several states, includ-ing Goodrich North Dakota where they all lived and worked on a farm. He graduated from New Rockford High School in North Dakota. While in high school Doyle excelled and lettered in track, football, and his first love basketball of which he played in the Arkansas Senior BB and participated in 7 National Senior Olympics till he was 80. While attending Gulf Coast Bible College (Houston Texas) acquiring his Bachelor of Theology Degree he became known as the "ping-pong king", of which years later he passed that on to his youngest daughter, Sherrie, while she attended GBC.

In his life he worked lots of jobs including painting barns with his brother, Floyd, his best friend grow-ing up into adulthood…also he drove a truck for Nuway soap, the Quaker Oats and the Montgomery Ward com-panies in the Pasadena and Houston Texas areas.

Doyle and Velva took their first ministry position as associate pastor in Memphis Tennessee. While liv-ing there they started their family. After graduating from GBC he took his first full-time pastorate in West Mon-roe Louisiana at the Welcome Home Church of God. They also pastored in Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Nebraska. After retiring in Hot Springs Arkansas they were asked to take interim pastorates in New Mex-ico, Missouri, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Nebraska.

Doyle loved people and everyone loved him. He never met a stranger. He had a pastor's heart loving to visit the sick, disciple young Christians as well as lead people to Christ. He led by example and was also a faith-ful husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, son and friend. He loved the Church and gave far and above in all they had.

He and Velva were a life-long team working in service for the Lord Jesus 65 years and 68 years of marriage. He left us a wonderful heritage.

He is survived by his daughters, Marsha (Carl) Owen of Augusta Kansas, Sherrie (Jesse) Elkins of Ot-tumwa Iowa; grandchildren Garrett (Rita) Owen and Lindsey (Ben) Leath of Dallas Texas, Jessica (Mike) Wil-lis of Christiansburg Virginia, Hannah (Garrett) Weaser of Katy Texas, and Ezekiel Elkins of Ottumwa Iowa; great grandchildren Braxon and Seriphina Owen, McKena, Aundrea and Adalyn Willis, and Emma Weaser; his brother, Verle Whitesel of Gainesville Florida, his sister n law, Margie Whitesel of Albuquerque New Mexico, and his precious nieces, nephews, and many special lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Deloris Scarboro, Marcile Beal, his brother, Floyd Whitesel who passed who recently passed away November 2020.

A Celebration of Doyle's life is planned for Saturday, February 6 at 11 am at the Hope Community Church 1831 E 21st St N, Andover KS 67002. Visitation with the family will be an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hope Community Church, where Doyle attended, or to Zion Com-munity Church of God, 15720 Copperhead Rd, Ottumwa Iowa 52501, where his other son n law and daughter pastor. If mailing a memorial check please note in memo "Doyle Whitesel Memorial".
