Obituary Online notes for Mary Ellen MAY
MCLEANSVILLE — Mary Ellen Butner, 74, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012.
A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held Sunday, September 23 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mary was born May 12, 1938 to the late Joe and Mary May. She was raised in the Whitsett community and worked with Lorillard Tobacco for 43 years. Mary was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. While working at Lorillard, she once set a record for making the most cigarettes in a single day. A huge baseball fan, she loved the Atlanta Braves. Of the many pleasures Mary enjoyed in life, she loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed having meals out with her sister Marcel. Additionally, Mary loved her cat, Sylvester, very much. Most importantly, she deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always put others before herself.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Welford Butner. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca May.
Survivors include a son, Ronnie Lee Butner as well as a daughter, Sheila Newman and husband Scott. Other survivors are grandchildren Charity Edens, Colt Butner and Ashleigh Radford. Additionally, she is survived by great-grandchildren Skylar Miller, C. J. Butner, Gabriel Foxx Edens and Cooper Butner. Also surviving is a sister, Marcel Jeffries, as well as brothers Melvin and Roy May.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 22 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street.
