Ross Somers Obituary

Ross O. Somers, age 92, died peacefully at his home on June 1, 2023 in Beaufort, SC.

He was born on January 20,1931 to the parents of Samuel Edwards Somers and Epsie Tesh Somers in Alamance County, NC.

Ross met his beloved wife Carolyn J. Whedbee in Greensboro, NC in high school, married on December 20,1948 and would have celebrated 75 years of faithful marriage together this year. They went on to have 5 daughters. Ross and Carolyn devoted their entire lives working and providing for their daughters in Aiken, SC, where he was employed at the Savannah River Plant for 40 years. Ross began in construction and operations for the plant. He was a devoted husband and father, striving to ensure that his daughters experienced a fulfilling, active life: i.e. swim team activities, Clark's Hill weekend trips, band and cheerleading practices.
After retiring in Beaufort, he spent his time traveling with Carolyn to every state in U.S. and abroad. In addition to his love of gardening, his passion was harvesting citrus fruit trees so that he could share them with friends and neighbors. Ross also engaged himself in golfing and Senior Adult tournaments.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Carolyn; are four daughters, Georgia, Laura, Marsha and Susan; twenty grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
