JULIAN — Mary Frances Somers Cook, 81, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
She was born, in Rockingham County, to the late Lindsey Moore Somers and Mary Isabell Sutton Somers and was married to the late Herbert Anderson Cook. She was a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church where she sang in the choir. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Barry) Carole Cook Hemphill of Julian and Susan Diane Cook Hill of Hawaii; son, Michael (April) Allan Cook of Greensboro; five grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Betty Jean Somers Hines of Brookneal, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Hazel Isabell Somers Hughes; and a brother, John Daniel Somers.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Johnson and the Rev. C. Allen Myers III with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. and at other times at the home of her daughter, Brenda Hemphill, in Julian.
Memorials may be made to the Apple’s Chapel Christian Church Building Fund, 7345 NC 61 North, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
