Nellie Webster Somers
BURLINGTON – Nellie Webster Somers, 83, of 104 Tarleton Ave. died
at 12:46 p.m. at her residence after one year of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Henry W.
Somers. She was the daughter of Cary Nelson Webster and Addie
Farrell Webster, both deceased. She was retired from Burlington
Industries Pioneer Plant in the personnel department and later worked
at Leath, McCarthy and Maynard Corp. She was a member of the
American Business Women’s Association, a member of First
Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church and a volunteer with the
Auxiliary at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marie Somers Reytar and husband
William of Laurel, Md.; a son, Henry W. Somers Jr. and wife Diane Loy
Somers of Kingsport, Tenn.; three grandchildren: Amy Reytar,
Kathleen Reytar and Robert Somers; and a close family friend, Winfred
L. “Beadie” Sumner of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers: Frank, Jesse, Herman,
Cecil, Dace, Henry and Daniel Webster; and two sisters: Selma W.
Arruda and Ruth W. Smith.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Associate Reformed
Presbyterian Church in Burlington by the Rev. Tim Robinson. The body
will be placed at the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be
in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington
from 6 to 8 p.m. today and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Associate Reformed
