Jack's ancestors originated from Germany and migrated to America in 1751. Most of his ancestors and relatives resided in North Carolina, where Jack was born.
Jack's family owned a large tobacco farm in North Carolina. Jack traveled across the country generating business for his family's farm. While on a business trip to Mexico City, Jack happened to stay at the Hotel Geneve where he met his future wife Marie, who was living in the hotel with her parents.
Jack Somers and Marie were married on 6 Jul 1931 in Mexico City. They had four daughters.
His father-in-law was Thomas Sinclair Gore (1869-1955), an architect who designed, built and owned the renowned Hotel Geneve in the historic "Zona Rosa" district of Mexico City. (See:

After Jack and Marie married, he permanently moved to Mexico City, lived and raised their daughters in the Hotel Geneve, and began working for his father-in-law at the hotel. Jack eventually became General Manager of the hotel until his death in 1978. After more than 70 years and four generations, the Hotel Geneve was sold by Jack and Marie's four daughters to the Grupo Carso "Calinda" hotel chain.
BURIAL: According to their daughter, Jack and his wife Marie are both buried in the "English Cemetery in Mexico City". Unable to locate that cemetery online or in Find A Grave. The cemetery may also be known as the "Panteón de los Ingleses" or "El Panteón de los Ingleses" (English Cemetery).
