Helen Doreen Cunningham
Beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Helen was born the oldest of six children in the farm country of Winchester, Indiana on October 26, 1919, to Paul and Rhoda Welch. Helen was a homemaker who also worked for ten years as the bookkeeper for Heatherwood Farms Dairy in Lansing. Helen was active in her church serving as past president of the United Methodist Women. Helen was a devoted mother and wife who faced the loss of two children and her husband's illnesses with undaunted courage and grace. Helen dearly loved spending time with family at her cottage on Higgins Lake where she and her husband Dave had several close friends. Helen had a highly developed sense of humor, was a friendly but competitive card player and a wonderful cook who excelled at baking. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hugh David Cunningham; two sons, Gary David and Terry James; and son-in-law Robert Lipka. She is survived by her son, Thomas Joseph (Marye), daughter, Sandra Kay Lipka, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a brother and two sisters. Helen will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at Grandhaven Manor and Home Town Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., October 29th at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd., Lansing, 48910. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
