Obituary Online notes for Alice Marie BECK
Alice Marie (Beck) Gower, 90 of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Harmony Gardens Assisted Living.
Alice was born August 28, 1922 in Windsor, Missouri, daughter of Warren L. and Gladys P. (Whitesell) Beck.
She graduated from Windsor High School and later, Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg. During her time at C.M.S.T.C., she taught at the Windsor High School.
Alice was united in marriage to Henry "Duncan" Gower of Kentucky. With her husband having chosen a military career, she taught grade school in Germany. During this time, she square danced and conducted tours all over Europe. The couple returned to Missouri and she taught English and fifth grade at Pleasant Hill.
Next, Alice was a librarian at C.M.S. Residence Center in Independence. She also taught Psychology and Children's Literature. She eventually moved to the main campus in Warrensburg, where she served as Dean of Women. She retired from U.C.M. as Director of Special Student Services.
Alice moved to George, Iowa where she resided for two years prior to returning to Warrensburg. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg and a published author.
Survivors include her children: Henry Gower of Warrensburg, MO; Nancy Cochran of Independence, MO; and Phillip Gower and wife, Melissa of Warrensburg, MO; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan; sister: Betty Nan Ross and two brothers: Richard "Dicky Dan" Beck and Doyle Beck.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Alumni Memorial Chapel on the U.C.M. Campus.
