John “Johnny” Edwin Dearybury Jr., 61, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, September 17, 2018, at Palmetto Health Richland-Columbia. Born October 17, 1956, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of Doris McCraw Dearybury of Boiling Springs, SC and the late John Edwin Dearybury Sr.
Johnny was a member of Cowpens First Baptist Church and attended Graham Chapel Wesleyan for a number of years. He retired from Progress Lighting and was a former Volunteer Fireman with Cowpens Fire Department. In High School, he was an outstanding basketball player before being injured and became a great slow pitch softball player. He was also an excellent woodworker, loved photography, and never met a stranger.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Diane Wilson Dearybury; children, Jessica Painter (Bryan) of Landrum, SC and John “Jed” E. Dearybury III of Boiling Springs, SC; stepdaughters, Ginger Wheeler (David) of Cowpens, SC and Jaime Bryant (William) of Spartanburg, SC; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Janis Dearybury Reese (Glenn) of Inman, SC and Susan Dearybury Horne of Boiling Springs, SC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be 2:45-3:45 PM Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with funeral services following at 4:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
