Marguerite Obenhaus, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on July 5, 2019 in Austin, Texas at the age of 103. She was born to Gustavus Gideon and Sarah Elizabeth (Patton) Anderson on June 7, 1916 in Houston, Texas. She married Leo E. Obenhaus on April 16, 1948.

Marguerite lived in Galveston the first seven years of her life. In 1922 her family moved to Friendswood, Texas where she attended elementary and middle school. She graduated from Webster High School in Webster, Texas because there was no high school in Friendswood at that time.

Marguerite was passionate in life and in raising a family to always show the love of Jesus, her Savior. She was a member of the Friendswood Friends Church and taught Sunday School starting as a teenager. She continued teaching throughout their time there. After moving to Columbus, she and Leo were members at First Baptist Church. Marguerite taught Sunday school there until she was in her mid-90's.

Marguerite's love of art was evident throughout her life; whether sewing, decorating elaborate wedding cakes or painting. As a member of the Live Oak Art Center, she was involved in art classes for children and had several shows highlighting her beautiful watercolor work. Her paintings are treasured by her family and friends.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents Gustavus and Sarah Anderson, husband of 55 years Leo E. Obenhaus, half-brother Alfred Anderson, half-sister Juanita Brown, and granddaughter Stacie Hankins.

Marguerite is survived by: daughters, Joyce Watts (Wayne), Carol Riddell (Joe), and Judy Hankins (Matthew); and son Laurence Obenhaus (Candy); eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Columbus, Texas with Rev. Victor Morrison officiating under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home. A visitation will be held before the funeral from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Weimar, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1700 Milam St., Columbus, Texas 78934. They will be used to spread the love of Christ through the mission efforts of the church.
