Glenn graduated from NC State University in 1954 with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at NCSU, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and the president of the Collegiate 4-H Club. He was an avid Wolfpack fan for life. He proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. After the Army, Glenn was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for approximately a decade. Then, for over 40 years, Glenn and Valeree operated their family business, Alamance Carpet Mart. Glenn always had a friendly smile and a need for conversation. Glenn never forgot a farmer or a carpet customer. He loved his Caswell County roots and served in the Southern Caswell Ruritan Club for many years.
Glenn was a gentle man who absolutely adored his grandchildren, involving himself in many of their academic and extracurricular activities. He was always more than ready to attend a sporting event, especially baseball, serving as a little league coach for many years for his son’s and grandson’s teams. The love and support he showed to so many throughout his lifetime will not be forgotten anytime soon. He will be greatly missed.
Glenn fought Parkinson’s disease with grace for many years. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Life at Home Senior Care and Twin Lakes Community. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Funeral services will be held at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 13, at 3:00 p.m. with Elder Zachary Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington. 261, Glenn Elton Byrd
