Shirley Morris Thiel, 89, of Burlington passed away December 20, 2022 at AuthoraCare Hospice Home, after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, Shirley was born on July 20, 1933, the daughter of Sam Elby Morris and Ivey Shaw Morris, both deceased. Shirley was married to the late Raymond Conrad “Connie” Thiel for over 50 years, and had one son, the late Gary Lee Thiel. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joy Thomas, Lottie Martin Magers, and Delois Hall, and brothers, Ervin Morris and Norman Morris.
Shirley is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom she cherished and enjoyed spending time with during the years.
Shirley was a self-employed, licensed cosmetologist and also worked for Southern Bell and AT&T in her later career. She was an active member of Stony Creek Presbyterian Church, serving as a Christmas program director, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Church Session member.
Shirley’s favorite activities and hobbies included taking trips to the beach, crocheting, hosting parties, and spending quality time with family.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Shirley’s friends Janet Barker, Karen Greene, and Elaine Conatser for the compassionate care they provided during the last three years of Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be made to Stony Creek Presbyterian Church, 2140 Stoney Creek Church Rd., Burlington, NC 27217.
