Kyle Clayton Boone, 67, of 56 Oxbow Crossing, Weaverville, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital.
A native of Washington, DC, he was a son of the late William Kyle and Irvel Elizabeth Lowry Boone. He was a graduate of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and served in the US Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict.
He received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) and was registered to practice in ten states and the Virgin Islands. He was a member of the National Association of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), the Construction Specification Institute (CSI), and the American Institute of Architects.
Mr. Boone came to Asheville in 1963 as an apprentice with the firm of Six Associates and he began his own practice, Boone Associates, in 1967. Among his design accomplishments are the Canton Municipal Complex and Town Hall, the Macon County Courthouse, the McDowell County Administration Building, and the North Buncombe High School.
He was also a licensed real estate agent and licensed general contractor. Mr. Boone also helped pioneer the development of low income housing for senior citizens in WNC.
He was appointed by President Reagan to serve on the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Building Sciences and by Gov. James Martin to the NC Energy Task Force. He also served as an appointee to the Southeast Region of HUD.
He was a Past-president of the Weaverville Lions Club, former member of the North Buncombe Optimist Club, 32nd Degree member of the Marion, VA, Masonic Lodge, member of the Oasis Shrine and Knights Templar, and lifetime member of the NRA. He was also active with school organizations and PTA and was a member of Weaverville United Methodist Church.
In addition to being a dedicated professional, he enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid Washington Redskins Football fan.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Helen Kirk Boone; three daughters, Kyla Boone Fain of Asheville, Helen Elizabeth Boone of Weaverville, and Kathleen Clair Boone of Charleston, SC; one son, Kirk Clayton Boone of Weaverville; four grandchildren, Helen Davis Boone, Carter Lowry Boone, Benjamin Clayton Fain, and Caroline Elizabeth Boone; two sisters, Kathleen Boone VanHoy of Fredricksburg, VA, and Donna Boone Lewis of Asheville; a half brother, William K. Boone, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA and fifteen nieces and nephews. [48379]

Valerie C. Sexton, 79, passed away at Union County Hospice in Monroe, NC on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 after a brief illness.
Born May 9, 1936 in Washington, DC, Valerie was one of seven children born to the late Esther Hess and Russell Bernard Clanton.
Valerie began a career in nursing in 1957 at Greenville General Hospital. Later, she worked in addiction treatment, internal medicine, veterinary medicine, skilled care nursing and staff management. After retiring from nursing, she became Vice President and Managing Partner of her husband’s business The Radiator for 25 years. Valerie enjoyed cooking, classic movies and watching daytime soaps with her daughter-in-law Donna Whitmore-Sexton.
Surviving are sons, Stephen Eric Sexton of Pelzer and John R. Sexton (Donna) of Monroe, NC; sisters, Barbara Adkins of Maryland and Constance Karpman of Delaware; two brothers, Leslie Clanton of Taylors and Kenneth Clanton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Moreland; her only grandson, Shane Phillips Sexton; and her loving husband of 50 years, John James Sexton.

Visitation will be held 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Downtown Chapel.
