MARS HILL: Ava Ballard Carter, 68, of 5009 Hwy 23A, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Madison Manor Nursing Center.

She was a native of Madison County and a daughter of the late Affie and Lear English Ballard and is also preceded by a brother, Raleigh Ballard.

Ava retired from Mars Hill College, Finance Dept. and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving is her husband Edward Carter of the home, one daughter, Tonya Carter Friend and husband John of Wilmington, mother-in-law, Georgia Carter of Mars Hill, sisters; Edna Jamerson and Jenell Fender both of Mars Hill and brother, Wade Ballard of Lexington, Ky.

The funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm, Monday, April 21st in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill. Rev. Garland Vance will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Upper Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be; Ragen, Fender, Tim Ray, Chris Carter, Darrell Carter, Gary Jamerson and Levi Carter.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Madison Manor Nursing Center staff and management for their kindness shown Ave during her stay and in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Activities Dept. of Madison Manor Nursing Center, 345 Manor Rd., Mars Hill, N. C. 28754.
