age 90 died Monday, February 8, 2016 at his home in Aberdeen, MD.
Born in Sparta, NC
he was the son of the late Emory and Lillie Mae (Hash) Maines.
He was predeceased by wives, Norma Jean Kennedy Maines and Marie Anders Evans Maines; stepson, Billy Evans; brother, L.C. “Dick” Maines; two sisters, Aileen Evans and Hazel Young.
Mr. Maines was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, in Perry Point, MD, for 25 years, and was a member of the American Legion, Post #128 in Aberdeen, MD.
He served in WWII and his favorite story to tell was about his assignment as a jeep driver for General Patton.
He is survived by daughters: Mitzie Curry and husband Donald of Port Deposit, MD and Sheila Maines and husband Larry of Aberdeen, MD; five grandchildren Steffanie Curry, Jason Curry, Ashley Maines Lee, Daniel Jamison and Lauren Jamison; six great-grandsons Grant West, Garrett West and wife Jo Anna, Joshua Curry, Cole Curry, Branden Kulisiewicz and Gaige Lee; Mr. Maines would have welcomed his first great-great-grandchild in July, Baby West, lovingly known at this time as "The Bean"; sister, Shirley Baker and husband Terry of Aberdeen, MD, and sister-in-law Barbara Maines of Joppa, MD; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation will be held at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home in Aberdeen, MD on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 with visitation at 10:00 am and service to follow at 11:00 am at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta with Brother Ed Hall officiating.
Interment will follow in Kennedy Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034.
