Obituary Online notes for Glenna Clyde KENNEDY
Glenna Kennedy Gambill, age 78 of 68 Farmers Fish Camp Road, Sparta, NC died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at her residence.
She was born November 8, 1937 in Alleghany County to the late William Clarence and Lola Kennedy at the home of her grandparents Carl and Drucy Kennedy.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her foster brother, Charles Kennedy.
She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Gambill of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Wendy Gambill of Sparta; two daughters, Robin Gambill of Mooresville and special friend David Shelton of Wilkesboro, Cheryl Mitchell and husband John of Oak Ridge; four precious granddaughters, Emily Pippin of Charlotte, Karington Gambill of Sparta, Carly Pippin of Oak Rige, and Kennedy Gambill of Sparta; her special Aunt Eula K. Hauser, Uncle Delano Kennedy, sister-in-law Ellen Kennedy and several cousins, Glenna and Robert were married on January 19, 1957.
She atended Draughon Business College and worked at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital prior to getting married. She was a secretary at Sparta Pipes, a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, an office assistant for Dr. James Rhodes, Optometrist, and was a homemaker and housewife. Glenna was also a founding member and Treasure of Piney Creek Dirty Fingers Garden Club and served as a board member of Alleghany County Department of Social Services.
She was a member of Mt. Carmen Union Baptist Church and attended Sparta First Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Even though she was an only child, many considered her as a sister and dear friend. She was actively involved in her community and had a passion for gardening and design. The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Glenna at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend John McCray officiating.
