Wayne Sherrill "Hippie" Hunt, 69, of 336 Jack Francis Road, Shelby, N.C. passed away Friday, September 22nd, 2017, at his residence.

Born in Shelby, he was the husband of Robbie Blanton Hunt and the son of Wayne Brevard Hunt and the late Nettie Lou Sides Hunt.

Mr. Hunt worked at Jaws-of-Life, PPG, and Eaton Corp. He formerly was a member of The Windjammers and was an AA sponsor.

In addition to his wife and father, Mr. Hunt is survived by two daughters, Ronda Hunt and Paula Hunt Waldeck, both of Shelby; eleven grandchildren, Monty J. Lankford, Caleb Lankford, Summer Lankford, Jacob Lankford, Tiffany Lankford, Jeremy Lankford, and Jordan Lankford; Courtney Hopper, Destanie Hopper, Catilyn Hopper, and Amber Hopper; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Hunt, and his sister, Sheila Cole.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, South Carolina 29702. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Virgil Hampton officiating. Entombment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

The family will be at the residence.
