Raleigh - Joel W. Winters, 51, died peacefully Monday, March 24, 2008 surrounded by loved ones and prayer.
A native of Wake County; he was the son of the late Frank Alfred Winters and Katherine Bray Winters.
Joel graduated from Millbrook High School and worked from the time he was 11 years old. Joel was employed with Quality Plus Construction, Fred Hight Builders, and for the past 10 years owned Winters, Inc.
Joel loved to walk on open farm land and be out in nature. He found joy in sunsets, watching his horses and cows graze, and was known for his love of children and his compassion for the elderly and his appreciation for the knowledge that they held.
A loving husband and father, Joel is survived by his wife, Melody and daughter, Caroline; by his brother, Al Winters and wife, Joan of Wilmington; sister, Jane Winters Fowler and husband, Mitch of Wilmington. He will be missed greatly by his nieces, nephews and many friends that were like family.
Family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 200 at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 4415 Pleasant Grove Church Rd. with interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the Rex Hospital Hospice Unit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County - 1300 St. Mary's Street 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605
