Donald Eustace Helms, Sr., 80, of 218 White Drive, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010.
Born August 1, 1929 in Mecklenburg County, NC, he was the son of the late Eustace Clyde Helms and Mabel Ayers Helms.
He served our country in the U S Air Force during the Korean Conflict . Mr. Helms was a retired manager for Big Store, Inc. and was a former resident of Surf City, NC where he served as Mayor and Councilman. He was also an EMT Instructor in Surf City and was very proud to be an Eagle Scout.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dolores "Dickie" Rumley Helms.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Paul Katalinic of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Debbie Helms of Wilmington, NC; a sister, Darcy Byrd and her husband, Harris of VA; his grandchildren: Virginia and Matthew Crider of Simpsonville, SC, Mary Katalinic of the home and Carol Helms of Raleigh, NC; and a great-grandson, Lucas Crider.
