Obituary Online notes for Clarence Jackson BAKER
McLEANSVILLE

Clarence Jackson Baker, 76, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Hanes-Lineberry Chapel North Elm Street.

Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.

He was a veteran of World War II and a staff sergeant in the European Theatre. He fought in Belgium, France and Germany, where he was the only survivor of his 12 man squad in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart. He retired in 1984 from Lorillard Tobacco Company, Greensboro , where he was employed for 24 years as packing department superintendent. He was a member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emily Baker; and by his daughter, Karen Baker Henry.

He loved all sports and was an avid golfer. He was a kind and gentle person who was loved and admired by all. He had many friends who will cherish his memory forever.

He was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lorine Tuttle Baker of Greensboro ; children, Barry Baker and wife, Frances of Chester, Va., Sylvia Hill and husband, Wayne of Greensboro , Cynthia Summers of Gibsonville, Jack Neal and wife, Janice of Archdale; grandchildren, Erika Chandler, Kimberly Henry, D.J. Baker, Alicia Goots, Johnnie Hill, Adam Summers, Bobbie Sue Poole, Angie Smith, Christi Neal, Brandy Hodges; and six great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Elizabeth Mabe of Greensboro and Kay Davis and husband, Steve of Stewart, Fla. T

he family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at the funeral home and all other times, at the family home. Memorials may be directed toward Hospice at Greensboro , 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro , N.C. 27405.
