Obituary Online notes for Faye Margaret GRIESE
Faye M Griese Cable
Parents: Hazel Wecker Griese and William Griese
She attended Lone Prairie School and two others (one-room schoolhouses) located in Washington County, Colorado in her early years.
She attended and graduated from Woodrow High School in 1948. In the fall of 1948, she then taught as a war emergency teacher in a one-room schoolhouse called Master School close to the current Woodlin School while attending Colorado Teacher's College in Greeley during the summer obtaining her Teacher License in 1950.
She was introduced to John Otis Cable by her brother Harold in October of 1951 and they married on June 1, 1952 at the Howard Methodist Church in Last Chance. Together they lived in a one-room house on the farm that John owned one mile southeast of Woodrow. In 1953 John's father, Harley Cable helped convert the one room farmhouse into two rooms using the attached garage. Later that year, they built a new farmhouse where they welcomed their four children—Vivian Neoma, Diana Sue, Gloria Faye and John Wesley. From her four children Faye gained 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
In 1967, the farmhouse was rented out and the family moved to Last Chance where they had purchased the Last Chance Motel. Faye ran the Motel and cooked at the Red Spur Restaurant owned by her brother Robert while John continued farming until 1981 when they sold the Motel and moved back to the farm. They commuted to Fort Morgan for the next several years while John worked at the beef and sugar beet plants and Faye managed and cooked at several restaurants in town.
Faye and John continued their passion for cooking and hospitality when they co-purchased Crain's Café in Brush in 1983 with her brother Robert and sister-in-law Wanda. They sold the café in 1993 and finally retired to enjoy church, gardening, flowers, and grandkids.
During the next 15 years, they moved to Centennial Manor in Brush where they enjoyed organizing community events, playing cards, and Faye continued sewing numerous quilts for each of her grandkids and members of her and John's growing family. In 2008, Faye lost her husband of 55 years. She continued to live at Centennial Manor, until health reasons caused her to move to assisted living at Aladdin in Brush and finally at Valley View in Fort Morgan. A social butterfly, Faye leaves behind many friends gained through her infectious humor and caring personality. She loved spending time with her family and catching up about life's adventures both new and old.
Her passion for life and others came from her deep love for Jesus, whom she accepted as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 17. She loved reading and listening to the Bible, and modeled what it looks like to have a positive and faith-filled life that was persistent until the very end. On the morning of December 10, 2022 Faye's faith became sight and she went to join her dear husband and worship their Heavenly Father eternally.
Preceding Faye in death was her husband, John, parents Hazel and William, her brothers, Howard and wife Francis, Harold and wife Shirley, Arthur, Donald, William and wife Raylene, Richard, and sister Francis, brother-in-law Joe Kral, and sister-in-law Wanda Griese.
Survived by brother Robert (Bob), sisters Fern, sister-in-law Florene, and children Vivian (Clarence), Diana (Jim), Gloria (Kenneth), John Wesley (Nancy) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 470, Faye M Griese Cable
