Homer Allen Lyle was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Maitland, Mo., to Olga Marie (Brown) and Harold Alexander Lyle. After growing up in Maitland, Homer attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., and then graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO.

Upon graduation Homer joined the U.S. navy where he completed Navel Flight Training. He served in the Mediterranean on the Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier during the Suez Crisis.

Following his father's footsteps, Homer started his career in banking after leaving the U.S. navy. his banking career took him to Atlantic, Ia; Omaha, Ne.; Kansas City, Mo., and finally to Denver, Colo. in 1979. Homer incorporated his love of flying as part of his banking career and continued his love of flying as a hobby when he moved to Denver.

When Homer retired from banking, he had more time to devote to his family and his flying hobby. he and his wife, Joyce, had many adventures flying to all parts of the country and Mexico. Their flying also made it possible to return to Maitland and Mound City frequently to visit friends and family.

Surrounded by loving family, Homer passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012, after a lengthy illness.

Homer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce (Heck) Lyle; and their three sons, David Lyle, of San Antonio, TX, Dwight (Mary) Lyle of Aurora, Co., and Doug (Vickie) Lyle of Elizabeth, Co.; as well as eight grandchildren.

A memorial celebrating Homer's life will be held at his son's house in Aurora on Wednesday, July 18, enabling all of his children and grandchildren to attend.

The family will have his ashes entered at the Maitland Cemetery at a later date.
