Eugene M. "Gene" Spoon, 79, of 4740 Bass Mountain Road, Snow Camp, died on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Julia Loy "Judy" Spoon, who survives, and the son of Alfred Banner Spoon, Sr. and Hallie Roberson Spoon, both deceased. He was a retired textile employee and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Spoon was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church and was a former member of the United Methodist Administrative Board. He was a charter member and Secretary of the Mountain View Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Tracey S. Johnson and husband Kendall of Gibsonville; one son, R. Todd Spoon of Burlington; one sister, Angela S. Burgess and her special friend, Don Staley of Winston Salem; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, A. Banner Spoon, Jr. and Charles Hunter Spoon.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 PM on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham and at other times will be at the residence.
