Mr. Jesse William “Bill” Ross
REIDSVILLE — Mr. Jesse William “Bill” Ross, 64, of 275 Citty Store Road, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at his home.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Connie McKinney Ross and lived in the Williamsburg community most of his life. He and his wife, Bettye, owned and operated Ross Grocery in the Williamsburg community for the past 25 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a pitcher for the 1955 State Championship Baseball Team from Reidsville Senior High School. An extremely devoted family man, he was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Bettye Eldridge Ross of the home; two sons, Rodney C. Ross and wife, Lynn, and Wesley W. Ross and wife, Katrina, all of Reidsville; one brother, Bobby Ross of Reidsville; one sister, Hazel R. Bowes of Reidsville; and three grandchildren, Jessica Ross, Kaylee Ross and Jeremy Wagoner, all of Reidsville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Ross; and two sisters, Betsy Gilliam and Frances Oakley.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brincefield family cemetery at Ross Farm, Trails End Road.
The family will be at Citty Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening, and at other times at the residence. Because of his love for children of the community, memorials may be made to Camp Carefree, 275 Carefree Lane, Stokesdale, N.C. 27357 or to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, N.C. 27375.
