Augustine (Goss) Hobgood
July 21, 1926 ~ July 16, 2023
96 Years Old
Augustine Goss Mann Hobgood was escorted into Heaven July 16, 2023, just five days before her 97th birthday. A native of Alamance County, she was born July 21, 1926 to the late Walter C. Goss and Claudia Younts Goss and the wife of Charlie J. Mann and Hunter Hobgood, both deceased.
Augustine graduated from Haw River High School, worked at Rose’s Department Store located on Main St., downtown Burlington; Brown-Wooten Mills and prior to retirement, kept toddlers in her home. Augustine was an avid gardener, gifted seamstress and Atlanta Braves biggest fan. Her favorite past-time was tending her flower beds and admiring finches on her feeders. Before declining health, Augustine resided at The Willows, where she had many wonderful friends and fond memories.
Augustine was a faithful member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church where she was past choir member. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. Her summer highlight was kitchen volunteer at the church youth camp, Camp Deer Lake of Haw River. She participated weekly in the church Visitation Ministry, visiting shut-ins. She had a heart for missionaries and was fascinated by their devotion.
Most of all, she was immensely proud of her family and spending time with them at family gatherings. Augustine was a quiet, meek spirit, loving wife, mother, and “Memaw” to her grand and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah M. Mullis (Toby) of Gibsonville; grandchildren Anthony T. Mann (Eva), Sonya M. Fields (Dennis), Amanda M. Auman (Brandon), Ashley M. Cantrell (Randall), great-grandchildren, Trevor Mann (Kasey), Ethan Mann, Maura Auman, Madalyn Auman, Vanessa Cantrell and Reagan Fields. Special nephew, Glenn Goss held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by brothers Buss Goss, Tip Goss, John Goss, Troy Goss; sisters Mary Ruth Goss, Elvita Knight, Blanche Jones, Nannie G Harris and her beloved son, Thomas Harold Mann.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 21, 2023 at McClure Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Brandon Rouse with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am – 10:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Andrews Memorial Baptist Church, 301 W. Elm St., Graham, NC 27253.
A special thank you to the staff of Ashton Rehab Facility for their constant care over the past 2 years. Mom loved you all as family. 262, Augustine Goss Mann Hobgood
