SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Shirley Webster Cobb, 83, of 8333 Snow Camp Road, passed at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after six months of failing health.
Shirley was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Graham, North Carolina, and also attended Harvest Baptist Church and Rock Creek Methodist Church.
She was employed at Kayser Roth offices for 15 years before leaving in 1970 to help her husband Elmo operate Confederate Acres Golf Course (now Southwick). Later they built, owned and operated Sourwood Forest Golf Course in Snow Camp. Shirley was known for the tasty hot dogs she made at both courses. During those years she took up golf and went on to play even more when she retired at age 67. She participated in ladies golf associations at many area courses. Shirley was a true competitor, making 3 holes in one and was still able to break 100 at age 82. She made friends wherever she went and cherished each one. Her kindness and generosity will truly be missed and never forgotten by her family and friends.
Surviving family members are her husband, Elmo P. Cobb, of the home; daughter, Renee Brown and husband, Terry, of Burlington; son, Quentin Lee Cobb of Snow Camp; grandchildren, Landon Brown and wife, Melanie, Heath Brown, and Lance Brown; great-grandchildren, Conner Brown, Madeline Brown, Garrett Brown and Dirk Brown; and brother, Dan Webster and wife, Claudia, of Burlington.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Rex Webster and Etta Mae Johnson Webster; son, Steven W. Cobb; grandson, Joshua Dylan Cobb; and two sisters, Ruby Webster Warren and Annie Webster Edwards. [22964]

Elmo Cobb, 95 of Snow Camp, left us to join his wife, Shirley, in Heaven on their 74th anniversary, October 23rd, 2023.
Born in 1928 in Caswell County, he was raised in Glencoe.
His early life was shaped by the Great depression and World War II. Elmo was the third child of Ali Cobb and Jenny Lee Page Cobb, who were tenant farmers. He joined the Merchant Marines after quitting school in 10th grade. The war ended before he turned 18. He married Shirley Webster of Graham in 1949 and lived in Graham and Snow Camp the rest of his life. In his early marriage he worked as an auto body repairman and landscaper, owning Alamance Lawn Service. When Elmo was almost 40, he became a golfer. He decided he could build a golf course on his land... so he did. By 1968 he designed, built, and opened Confederate Acres Golf Course (now Southwick) near Southern High School. It was a family business with Shirley running the shop and sons Steve and Lee helping him maintain the course. In 1980 Elmo decided to sell the course, then bought more land in Snow Camp and designed and built Sourwood Forest Golf Course. The Cobb family operated this one for 8 years and sold it. Not ready to retire at 70, Elmo was commissioned by a relative to design and build Quaker Creek Golf Course in Pleasant Garden.
Elmo played a consistent game of golf for many years and after retiring, he played with the Southwick Seniors until he broke his hip at 93. He even scored a hole-in-one when he was 90!
Elmo helped establish the Alamance Beagle Club in the 1950s. He loved hunting and playing bluegrass music. He had natural talents and taught himself to play banjo, fiddle, harmonica, and guitar. He loved bluegrass jam sessions with other musician friends. He was of the Baptist faith and joined Andrew's Memorial Church as a young man He was remembered and respected by his family and the golfing community for his hard work, honesty, and creativity.
Elmo lost his beloved Shirley in 2013, his son Steve in 2008, and grandson, Joshua Dylan Cobb in 2011 in a truck accident.
He is survived by daughter Renee Cobb Brown (Terry); son Lee Cobb; grandsons Landon (Melanie), Heath, and Lance Brown; great-grandchildren Connor, Dirk, Madeline and Garrett Brown, and by his sister, Faye Overman ( Bobby) of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his brother Willard (Virginia), sisters Vertie Billings (Clarence) and Hazel Crouse (Mickey), all of Burlington.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by McClure Funeral Service in Graham. The viewing will be held Sunday evening, October 29,2023, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. The funeral will be held on Monday, beginning at 11:00AM with private grave side rights to follow the service.
