Obituary Online notes for Dr. John Joseph SONNE
Dr. John J. Sonne, 98, of Bardstown, died Friday, May 13, 2016, at Windsor Gardens Nursing Home. He was born July 21, 1917, in Laconia, Ind.
During his medical career, Dr. Sonne served as Nelson County's only surgeon and specialist. According to his good friend and colleague, Dr. Harry Spalding, John was on call seven days a week – 24 hours a day. He always came out regardless of the hour or the patient's ability to pay. Dr. Sonne was a very dedicated and devoted physician. He will always be remembered by his patients, as Dr. Sonne would whistle in the hallway, on his way to consult them.
Dr. Sonne served on numerous committees, was president of the hospital staff, and was dedicated to the concept of the Civil War Museum. He was inducted into Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber of Commerce "Hall of Fame" in 1998 and served on the Bardstown Independent School Board from 1957 to 1974.
He was an United States Army Veteran of World War II, where he was a combat surgeon with 113th Calvary "Red Horse" Group.
He was preceded in death by former wife, Angela (Rawles) Sonne; a grandson, Damon Rawles Sonne; and a brother, Dr. Louis S. Sonne. 470, Dr John Joseph Sonne
