Barbara "Babs" Trayer Michael, age 83, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Bristol, Virginia on October 26, 1933, to the late H.M. Jack Trayer and the late Dorothy Cigrand Trayer.
Babs attended Fassifern School for Girls, North Carolina and is a graduate of Virginia High School, Sullins College and Florida State University.
She was a camper and counselor at Camp Sequoya.
At Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, Clearwater, she was active in Daughters of the King, Vestry, Postcard Ministry, ECW and Cursillo and was the Pastoral Care Coordinator, Lay Eucharist Visitor, Diocesan Delegate and Sunday School Director.
In addition to working for the Division of Blind Services, Tampa, Florida, she was active in Clearwater's Community Woman's Club, Ladies of Royalty, Polk County Braille Association, and many PTA's at her children's schools.
Awards for her service include People of Dedication Award by the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Dolly Gamble Award by the Florida Council of the Blind, Pinellas County School's Senior Volunteer of the Year and FSU Outstanding Alumni.
Babs is preceded in death by husband of 34 years, John R. Michael Sr.
She is survived by her children, John R. Michael Jr. and wife, Helen of Clearwater, Carolyn Musselman and husband, Don of Tampa, and Julie Byrd and husband, Bill of Tampa; grandchildren, Emily, Trayer, Michael, Dean and Evan of Tampa; and aunt, Louise Trayer Morgan of Abingdon, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Episcopal Church 2165 NE Coachman Road, Clearwater, FL 33765.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 4, 2017, 11 a.m. at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church.
