Donald Nelson Dalton, 73, of Claytor Lake, Dublin, died early Monday morning, March 7, 2011, at his residence.

He was born May 16, 1937, in Newbern and was the son of the late Minnie Hazel Lyons Dalton & Archie Harless Dalton.

He was a retired banker with Suntrust Bank, was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) Radford, and was a Veteran of the National Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Ed Dalton.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Gray Dalton; a son, Ronald Nelson Dalton, of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Angela D. Collins, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Annette D. Holcombe, of Timmonsville, SC; a sister, Mrs. Duane "Mary Sue" Pace, of Pulaski.

Also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Dalton, Kendall Dalton, Mackenzie Collins, Catherine Collins, Jake Holcombe, and Max Holcombe; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 10, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church (DOC) in Radford, with the Rev. Gina Rhea officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the First Christian Church (DOC), 400 Tyler Avenue, Radford, VA 24141. Arrangements by Seagle Funeral Home, Pulaski.

A kind and gentle soul with the talent to do many varied tasks. Did not cross paths with many strangers and offered a helping hand to customers through his profession as a career banker. Proud of his service as a Sgt. in the VA National Guard. The turnout at his memorial service is a testament to what he meant to his family, friends and community. The world was a better place for him. RND

Ashes gently scattered among dear and favorite places in the New River Valley of SW VA. Claytor Lake, Newbern, Fairlawn, Draper Mountain and the New River.
