BARREN SPRINGS, Va. — Roger Lee Johnston, 62, of Barren Springs, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lois Johnston of Pulaski, and by a brother, Muss Johnston.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Self Johnston; children and their families: Roger Lee Johnston Jr. and Sharon and their children, Matt, Tres, Mason, Avery and Noah; Missy Johnston; Jason Johnston and Michelle and their children, Bailey and Zachary; Dee Dee Johnston Crawford and Kevin and their children, Aaron, Chandler and Eric; Eddie Shumate and his children, Trey, Ariel and Olivia; Sam Shumate and April and their children, Madelyn, Price "Fuzzy" and Blake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stuart and Nancy Johnston and Leo and Mary-etta Johnston, many nieces and nephews, along with many close friends and his faithful pet, Furby.

Johnston retired as a Sergeant First Class with 21 years of service in the United States Army serving in Vietnam and Desert Storm. The family requests flowers or memorial gifts of your choosing in his memory.
A graveside service will be held from the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin with military honors.
