Benjamin Lawrence Best
August 9, 1934 ~ August 12, 2024 (age 90)

Benjamin Lawrence Best, age 90, passed away peacefully at Hospice Home in Burlington, North Carolina and went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12, 2024 after ten and a half months of Palliative and Hospice Care at home. He was born in Greene County, North Carolina on August 9, 1934 to the late Floyd and Minnie Best.

He survived his sweetheart and soul mate, his beloved wife Joyce, for almost two and a half years after 67 years of marriage. He was the supportive father to three daughters: Connie (Bill, deceased) Hahn, Brenda (Tim) Davis, and Tammie (Tim) Wilkins. He was the proud granddaddy of four grandchildren: Andrew Hahn (deceased), Natalie (Sam) Cowles, Benjamin (Chelsea) Wilkins, and Kenneth (fiancé Mallory) Davis, as well as two great-grandchildren: Ashley (Weston) Madeira and Isaac Cowles. He felt blessed to see his first great, great-grandchild, Easton Madeira, and now has another great grandchild and another great, great grandchild on the way. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Family was so important to him, and his legacy lives on through all of them.

In addition to being a family man, he was also a career man. After two years of active military duty and four years serving in the reserves, he spent thirty-two years of his career in the transportation industry and another thirty-two years in the real estate market. He only decided to retire at the age of eighty-four because his wife, Joyce, needed fulltime care. He always said he had lived a full life, blessed by God, and his positive outlook on life blessed everyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, and granddaddy, and he will be greatly missed.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2024 in the chapel at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington, North Carolina. The family will visit with friends and family immediately following the service at the funeral home.

He will be entombed at the Salisbury National Cemetery on Monday, October 28, 2024 in a private family committal service with military honors for his service in the Army.
